Who Am I?

Hi! You might know me as Shirakumo Kei, heroine (not the drug!) and costumed adventurer. Time and time again, we heroes have been misrepresented, idealized, smeared, etc. in the media, by members of the populace, our enemies, and sometimes even by each other. Well that stops here. This is my soapbox. I’m going to tell you all about what I do as a super powered individual to make the world a better place. You’re allowed to have your say–I encourage it!–but expect a response, even if it’s not the one you’d expect.

This is a place for all kinds of people to gather, discuss, and interact in an online community. A place to show just how human we “heroes” really are–to show exactly why we do what we do.

Oh, and we have a canonical scripture of a sort: If you really want to participate here, read Alan Moore’s Watchmen. Get used to the ideas inside. We’re not exactly like that–not that I know of–but it shows just how complex we can be.

So as this persona…can you more explicitly tell me your agenda? Do you decry Moore for Watchmen? Do you share The Comedian’s existentialist angst?

As much as I agree to seeing The Watchmen (pardon me, I just always put the “The” in) as anti-Exceptionalist, I also see how much people really want to believe in Exceptionalism. My point is that we can’t say Exceptionalism is bad (they are supposed to exist as role-models, after all) or completely non-existent (because we see the exceptional in all kinds of people, from world leaders to sports stars), but I think we can definitely say that Exceptionalism is full of problems. This isn’t going against what Moore is saying, I think.

This superhero character is human, like those in the graphic novel, but while sharing some similar characteristics, without the Veidt plot it’s hard to see her in quite the same light. However, I am planning some kind of event to shake things up in the next week or so if things go well and I can sit down and do some creative writing.

I’m currently trying to NOT put “the” in front of Watchmen–it’s not technically correct to do so, just a habit of mine.
